BoM: Drier times ahead

by | Aug 23, 2023 | Australia, Weather

The Bureau of Meteorology’s (BoM) latest Climate and Water long-range forecast is for drier warmer than average conditions for most of Australia from September to November 2023.

Near median streamflows are forecast for August to October for most sites, while below average streamflows are forecast for eastern and southeastern sites. September to November daytime and night temperatures are likely to be above average for most of Australia, very likely for the east. The Bureau remains on El Niño alert with conditions likely to develop in spring. While ocean temperatures are at El Niño thresholds, however, a sustained shift in the tropical atmosphere is needed before El Niño can be announced.
