NIWA update: big rains could still surprise

by | Sep 7, 2022 | Global, Weather

NIWA’s latest climate outlook for September to November 2022 indicates La Niña is expected to continue to be an important climate driver for the country during spring. Seasonal rainfall will be determined by pressures across the region which will see occasional sub-tropical lows and strong high pressure belts, making any rainfall predictions challenging.

Average rainfall is expected in the eastern parts of the North and South Islands, while the western parts are expected to receive average or below average rainfall. The northern part of the North Island is likely to receive above average or average rainfall, while temperatures are expected to be above average across both islands.
