UK milk production was down 3.6% YOY in December 2021, according to the latest data from AHDB. Milk production totalled 1,014m litres in December 2021 and while production was down YOY, December output lifted 3.8% from the month before. Average daily milk deliveries across the UK were 32.7m litres/day down from 33.9m litres/day the previous year. For the season to date (April to December), milk output is 1.2% below the season prior compatible. 

Lower production is continuing to support price hikes in wholesale markets as well as higher farmgate milk prices. Despite higher prices, AHDB says the continued pressure of higher input costs on margins means a hike in production is unlikely. The latest milk production forecast, released by AHDB in December 2021, forecasts a 1.2% YOY fall in production in 2021/22.
